Exclusions for Illness
We believe that children have a right to play in a happy and healthy environment, for this reason our staff will send home children who are unwell.
We may also call parents with any concerns we may have about children’s behaviour such as; having an off day, being overly emotional with no cause, or for displaying symptoms that could be illness.
Antibiotics prescribed
First 24 hours at home
Covid19
Follow current government guidelines
Food Poisoning
At least 48 hours or until 2 clear nappies if longer, or for notifiable diseases, until advised by the relevant public health official.
Hand, Foot and Mouth
Can return to setting once recovered and feeling better with no high temperature
Meningococcal infection
Until recovered from the illness
Poliomyelitis
Until declared free from infection by the appropriate public health official.
Rubella
At least 7 days from appearance of the rash
Scarlet fever
24 hours after the start of treatment.
Temperature
If sent home ill, child must be off for 24 hours
Typhoid fever
Until declared free from infection by the appropriate public health official
Chickenpox
At least 7 days from the onset of the rash or longer until the spots dried up
Diarrhoea
48 hours from the last bout of diarrhoea experienced
Gastro-enteritis
At least 48 hours or until 2 clear nappies if longer, or for notifiable diseases, until advised by the relevant public health official.
Impetigo
At least 48 hours from start of treatment or longer if the skin remains unhealed.
Measles
At least 7 days from appearance of the rash
Ringworm of body/Threadworm
Seldom necessary to exclude provided treatment is being given
Salmonellosis
At least 48 hours or until 2 clear nappies if longer, or for notifiable diseases, until advised by the relevant public health official.
Slapped Cheek
No exclusion required if child is fit and well with no temperature
Tonsillitis
If prescribed antibiotics first 24 hours at home or until well enough to return and with no high temperature.
Vomiting
48 hours from the last bout of sickness experienced
Whooping Cough
21 days from the onset of paroxysmal cough/ or 48 hours from starting appropriate treatment
Conjunctivitis
24 hours after the start of treatment.
Dysentery
At least 48 hours or until 2 clear nappies if longer, or for notifiable diseases, until advised by the relevant public health official.
Headlice
Until appropriate treatment has been given
Infectious hepatitis
7 days from onset of jaundice
Mumps
At least 5 days from onset of illness or longer until the swelling has subsided
Ringworm of scalp
Until cured
Scabies
Can return once first dose of appropriate treatment has been given
Streptococcal infection of the throat
24 hours after the start of treatment
Tuberculosis
Until declared free from infection by the appropriate public health official
Plantar warts
No exclusion. Should be treated and covered
